Learn how to manage your household members, transfer ownership, and handle common household admin tasks.

Your Household

A household is your private space in GotReceipts where you and the people you live with track tasks together. Everything — tasks, activities, points, and the leaderboard — is contained within your household.

Inviting Members

To invite someone to your household:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Tap Invite Members
  3. Share the invite link with the person you want to add

The invite link can be shared via message, email, or any way you like. When they click it, they'll be prompted to create an account (or sign in) and will automatically join your household.

Note: Invite links expire after 7 days for security. Generate a new one if needed.

Member Roles

Households have two roles:

Owner

  • Can edit household settings (name, etc.)
  • Can remove members from the household
  • Can delete the household entirely
  • Can transfer ownership to another member

Member

  • Can log activities and earn points
  • Can create and edit tasks
  • Can react to other members' activities
  • Can leave the household at any time

Removing Members

If you're the household owner and need to remove someone:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Find the member you want to remove
  3. Tap the menu icon and select Remove from household

Removed members will lose access immediately. Their historical activities remain in the household record, but they can no longer log new tasks or see household activity.

Leaving a Household

If you want to leave a household you're a member of:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Scroll down and tap Leave Household
  3. Confirm your decision

Your historical activities will remain, but you'll no longer have access to the household.

Warning: If you're the owner, you must transfer ownership before leaving.

Transferring Ownership

To transfer ownership to another member:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Find the member you want to make owner
  3. Tap the menu icon and select Transfer ownership
  4. Confirm the transfer

Once transferred, you'll become a regular member and the new owner will have full admin rights.

Changing Household Name

To rename your household:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Tap on the household name
  3. Enter the new name
  4. Save changes

Deleting a Household

If you're the owner and want to delete the household entirely:

  1. Go to Settings → Household
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Household
  3. Confirm by typing the household name
  4. Tap Delete permanently

Warning: This action cannot be undone. All tasks, activities, and data will be permanently deleted.

Multiple Households

Currently, each account can only be a member of one household at a time. If you need to join a different household, you'll need to leave your current one first.

Common Questions

Someone moved out — what should I do?

If a housemate has moved out, the owner can remove them from the household. Their past contributions will still show in the activity history, but they won't be able to log new tasks.

Can I merge two households?

There's no automatic way to merge households. If you need to combine groups, one household should join the other using invite links. Historical data from the old household won't transfer.

What happens to my points if I leave?

Your points stay with you as part of your activity history, but you'll no longer appear on that household's leaderboard. If you join a new household, you start fresh there.
