What is GotReceipts?
GotReceipts turns household chores into a friendly competition. Track tasks, earn points, and finally have proof of who's doing what around the house.
Whether you're living with family, housemates, or a partner, GotReceipts helps you:
- Keep track of completed tasks with photos as "receipts"
- Earn points and climb the household leaderboard
- React to each other's accomplishments with emoji
- Earn badges for streaks, milestones, and special achievements
Creating Your Household
When you first sign up, you'll create a household — this is your private space where all your tasks and activities live.
Naming Your Household
Pick a name that works for your group. It could be:
- Your family name ("The Patels")
- Your address ("Flat 4B Crew")
- Something fun ("Chore Warriors")
Don't worry, you can change this later in settings.
Inviting Members
Once your household is set up, invite the people you live with. Go to Settings → Household → Invite Members and share the invite link.
Tip: Everyone needs their own account to track their individual contributions and compete on the leaderboard.
Setting Up Tasks
This is where the fun begins! Tasks are the chores and activities you want to track. Head to Settings → Tasks to create them.
What Makes a Good Task?
Think about the recurring jobs around your home:
- Cleaning: Hoovering, mopping, cleaning the bathroom, wiping surfaces
- Kitchen: Washing up, emptying the dishwasher, putting the bins out
- Laundry: Putting a wash on, hanging washing out, folding and putting away
- Garden: Mowing the lawn, watering plants, weeding
- Pet care: Feeding pets, walking the dog, cleaning the litter tray
- Admin: Paying bills, booking appointments, doing the food shop
Assigning Point Values
Here's where you'll need to have a conversation with your household. Part of the fun is deciding together what each task is worth!
Consider:
- Time: How long does this task take?
- Effort: Is it physically demanding?
- Frequency: How often does it need doing?
- Unpleasantness: Does anyone actually enjoy cleaning the loo?
A common approach:
- 5 points — Quick tasks (wiping worktops, taking out one bin bag)
- 10 points — Standard tasks (washing up, hoovering one room)
- 20 points — Bigger jobs (deep cleaning the bathroom, mowing the lawn)
- 30+ points — Major tasks (full house clean, big food shop)
Tip: Start simple with a few tasks and adjust point values as you go. You'll quickly figure out what feels fair!
Logging Activities
When you complete a task, log it as an activity. Tap the big button on the home screen, select your task, and optionally add a photo as proof — your "receipt."
Why Add Photos?
Photos serve two purposes:
- Proof — No more debates about whether the washing up was really done
- Accountability — Everyone can see the before/after
Photos are only visible to your household members, so don't worry about privacy.
The Leaderboard
Check the leaderboard to see how everyone's contributing. Points reset weekly by default, so there's always a fresh competition.
The leaderboard shows:
- Current week's standings
- Points earned by each person
- Total activities completed
Reacting to Activities
When someone completes a task, show your appreciation! Tap on any activity to add an emoji reaction. It's a fun way to acknowledge effort and keep motivation high.
Earning Badges
Badges celebrate milestones and achievements:
- Streaks — Complete tasks on consecutive days
- Volume — Hit point milestones (100, 500, 1000+)
- Categories — Master specific types of tasks
- Special — Secret badges for exceptional contributions
Tips for Success
Have "The Talk"
Sit down together and agree on:
- Which tasks to track
- What point values feel fair
- Any house rules (like photo requirements)
Start Small
Don't try to track every single task from day one. Start with 5–10 core tasks and expand from there.
Keep It Fun
Remember, the goal is to make chores less of a burden, not to create conflict. If someone's consistently at the bottom of the leaderboard, have a chat about what's going on rather than using it as ammunition!
Adjust As You Go
Point values not feeling right? Task missing from the list? Update things as you learn what works for your household.
